Visual Shamanism

Opening: 21.10.21 - Closing: 19.11.21

Artist: Menachem Roth
Curator: Joshua Simon

The exhibition is a participatory video project in which the artist takes on the role of a shaman and creates a personal amulet for visitors using the video medium. The amulet contains a greeting or request that the visitor records in a voice message combined with video footage that the artist-shaman is making on the spot. The raw materials were pre-photographed and are aimed and dedicated to mind shaping and healing. At the end of the process the amulet is sent to the visitor as a video clip.

The artist will be present on 27-28.10 and also on 4,18.11 between 19:00 and 20:00 to welcome visitors. While the artist-shaman wont be present at the gallery, the cinema installation tells of a healing journey using the technique of video shamanism.

Barbur is a place for art in Jerusalem and an ongoing forming project. It was founded in July 2005 by five friends, Jerusalem-based emerging artists working collectively in an independent nonprofit space for art and artists, in the aim of offering a platform for critical debate that addresses social issues while developing projects with local communities.
