In her new exhibit, Yael Reshef continues her extended examination of
the relationship between memory, landscape and art. The landscapes and
objects from domestic interiors in her works are open to viewers’ interpretations.
The memory is Reshef’s private memory, while the landscapes are Israeli landmarks
charged with political, local, romantic and newsworthy baggage.
By using colorful tape, which lacks formal flexibility, she neutralizes both the potential
nostalgia of memory as well as its concrete directness. Her practice, with its goal of deepening
representation and the uniqueness of the image, moving between the concrete and the abstract,
turns into an extended contemplation of place and the observer of that place.
