Deliberate Randomness, the current exhibition presented at the New Gallery Artists’ Studios Teddy, seeks to define the artist selection process within the exhibition itself. The featured works are a product of a selection method, in which different artists from Jerusalem invited one another to take part in the exhibition. This “game” of selection, which allows dynamic, surprising, and random encounters, to some extent draws on the “exquisite cadaver” originally invented by the Surrealists – a collective technique whereby each participant adds words or images to a general composition, following certain rules that apply to all participants.
