‏The Jerusalem Forest

25.10.2014 - 15.1.2015

Artist: Yaakov Israel
Curator: Amir Balaban

Yaakov Israel is one of the last field camera operators in Israel. The large format landscapes portray in great detail one of Jerusalem’s famous urban wildlife sites. The large prints unveil the story of this aging forest planted around the city after the War of Independence. Israel captures the layers and undercurrents that were exposed after the recent snowstorm and the frequent forest fires, unearthing the secrets of the Jerusalem Forest.

In the late 1960s she immigrated to Israel, where she was an active photographer and gained international recognition for her achievements.
