Threefold

Saturday, 21.2.2015 until 2.5.2015

Artist: Nir Evron
Curator: Dr. Nissan Perez

Winner of the 2015 Miron Sima Prize for the Visual Arts

Evron’s works which could be called figurative abstracts are the result of expert manipulation. Like an illusionist he confuses our senses. However his actions are evident and they reveal to the viewer the codes to decipher and understand the alterations of the image. As a product of processing and assembling the images carry spectral qualities that remind of the widespread practice of spirit photography in the 19th century.

Three bodies of work will be presented in this exhibition. On his Dreyfus/Méliès series the committee wrote: “Evron’s works make a unique artistic statement, which draws simultaneously on different artistic media such as photography and cinematography. In his Dreyfus/Méliès project, Evron defies and transforms the definitions of those media, adding new dimensions of meaning and creativity within them. Evron’s work is a feat of originality, innovation and intricacy that find expression in an exploration of the early beginnings of the cinematic medium. The challenging visual aspect of Evron’s work, as well as his approach to research and experimentation, pushes the boundaries of the medium and encourages the observer to reflect on and rethink the image observed, as well as deep-seated questions on the artistic status of the image. The innovative aspect of his art, the visual element of surprise and the intellectual stimulation endow Evron’s work with depth and appeal that call upon the viewer to stand up to the challenge and contemplate the work observed.”

Members of the prize committee: Dr. Gal Ventura, Ilit Azoulay, Dr. Nissan N. Perez.

The prize is awarded bi-annually in memory of the painter Miron Sima, is dedicated this year to artists in the field of photography.

Jerusalem Artists’ House

The Jerusalem Artists House is situated in a historic building that once housed "The Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts," founded by Boris Schatz in 1906, today the current Bezalel Academy for Arts and Design. For a time the building housed the Bezalel National Museum, precursor of The Israel Museum, Jerusalem. When the Israel Museum was opened, the collections of the Bezalel National Museum were transferred to it, where they formed the initial core collection of the Museum. Since 1965, the House has served as home to the Association for Jerusalem Artists. In this capacity, the House has become a dynamic center for exhibitions, displaying unique and varied works of both Israeli and international artists. The annual exhibition plan includes a series focusing on prominent young artists exhibiting their works for the first time, as well as a series of retrospective works by veteran artists. In addition, the Artists House displays group exhibitions on a wide range of subjects, joint presentations between Israeli and international artists, as well as a variety of other activities.
