Jerusalem Artists` House

Gallery talk at the “New members 2023” exhibition with curator Meydad Eliyahu and artists Sarah Benninga, Yael Boverman-Attas and Noga Grinberg, who have joined the Jerusalem Artists Association this year. As part of a yearslong tradition, the Artists House continues to add new members to the Jerusalem Artists Association every year and will be opening the annual exhibition season by showing the works of the new members.

Sarah Benninga’s paintings describe dramatic and mysterious events filled with human figures. The scale, space and multiplicity of characters are reminiscent of the historical painting genre, with a clear message and narrative at its center, but Benninga’s painted figures do not play an external role; they stand alone, freed from the constraints of traditional, Western-masculine painting. In the series “Hallway”, Yael Boverman-Attas’ works are charged with the tension between the illusion of space and the material act of sketching. Inspired by her childhood home in Jerusalem the artist works through both distant memories and more recent ones, constructing these fraught spaces anew. In the series “Normal Days” Noga Grinberg presents photographs from the last three years that originated in years of tracking the shadow poetics of the everyday. Seasonal changes and the shifts between daylight and darkness are what the artist uses to melt the mundane and the sacred into one, to join the cyclical and recurring to the singular, connect the private with the public.

Following the move of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and other schools comprising the Jerusalem Art Campus to the city center, 20 artists from various disciplines, graduates of art schools in Jerusalem, embarked on a joint journey of research and creation. This journey produced five artistic interventions across the city center that were made in a short and intensive period. Follow the works on the map!

Musrara Art Gallery

Meeting with poet Lee Maman as part of “Climbing Poetry.” Poetry on the steps of Musrara hosted by Lea Klibanoff-Ron.

The artist’s book collates Maiberg’s works from recent years, ending with the installation “Nowhow On, Again On” presenting now at Ticho House a part of the “Homegrown” exhibition. Orly Maiberg and Moran Shoub Rubashov will speak at the event, followed by the performance of Camille Meltz, singer, artist, and autoharp musician.
