About

Manofim Festival is the largest, oldest and most influential annual contemporary art event in Jerusalem, attracting thousands of attendees and visitors every year. The independent project that is the festival, now in its 16th year, spans over five days in July (July 9-13 2024) and involves more than 30 contemporary art galleries, leading cultural centers in Israel and hundreds of independent artists and creators.

During the festival, dozens of new exhibitions will be presented and a variety of special events and performances are created especially for it. The Manofim Festival, established by Jerusalem-based artists Lee He Shulov and Rinat Edelstein who still manage it today, relates through art from a variety of disciplines to the human, public, historical and contemporary complexity of Jerusalem, and takes place in various areas and unique exhibition sites throughout the city.

Did you know? The name ‘Manofim’ (the Hebrew word for cranes) comes from a pun – “Ma HaNofim?” (“What are the views?”) – with the help of the crane, we seek to lift the art field in Jerusalem, in order to see the view of the city. When the name was chosen in 2008 for the first Manofim event, the landscape that dominated the industrial area Talpyiot, around the Artists Studios where it all began, was full of construction and cranes overlooking the city from above. So, when we say “Manofim,” we are not referring to the plural of the word crane, but to a new word that carries this double entendre.
