The Manofim Festival is dedicating a special evening to the work of Gedy Ronen, one of the more unique voices in Israel’s indie music scene. Pianist, singer, composer, and producer, he has been creating songs for two decades that blend poetry, social critique, and raw emotion. The evening will move through key milestones in his work: songs from his solo album, new material, and a one-time special meeting created just for the festival with the members of the two bands he founded with Boaz Reinshreiber, “Devek” and “Echad Chelkei Echad,” marking their first appearance on stage together in over a decade.

Gedy’s distinctive voice and unique musical writing are the connecting thread between the different stages of his artistic journey. Over the years, he has been involved in some of the most prominent and influential projects in the local alternative music scene. In 2017, he released “Omrim Shezeh Atah” (“They Say It’s You”), the first full album in his solo career, which he has continued ever since. At the same time, he is a member of the band “Hachatzer Ha’achorit” (“The Backyard”) alongside Yankale Rotblit, Tomer Yosef, and Itamar Zigler, where he is responsible for songs like “Ma’aneh Koli,” “Ptzatza Metakteket,” “Olam Shakuf,” and more.

As part of a journey through the bands and songs that shaped his path, Gedy will meet with ‘Devek,’ one of the prominent bands of the alternative music wave of the 2000s, and with ‘Echad Chelkei Echad,’ the project in which he released a trilogy of albums based on the poems of the poet Eran Bar-Gil: a unique milestone of sharp, poetic, and uncompromising Hebrew rock. The songs written back then, about society, family, identity, and politics, continue to resonate today with a special intensity.
