Islands of Unknowing

Open studios at the Art Cube Artists' Studios

Tuesday, July 14, 17:00 – 22:00

Friday, July 17, 11:00 – 16:00

Islands of Unknowing are artists’ studios scattered next to each other, islands where artistic creation takes place. The open studio events are an invitation to wander into the heart of the craft, into the unfolding process, and into the streams of consciousness of each of the 17 artists working in the Art Cube Artists’ Studios. The open studios take place as part of the Drift exhibition, which connects with the main theme of the Manofim 2026 festival – recognition. Each of the islands carries its own form of knowledge, but also an open space for searching, doubt, and discovery, allowing for quiet observation, listening, and movement through a path that has not yet been revealed.

The title Islands of Unknowing contains in itself the play between islands of knowing and a state of uncertainty. The islands show up as temporary points of reference within a vast and unmapped space, like an invitation to linger in the stage before recognition. It’s the moment when meaning is still forming — chaotic, blurry, as the senses sharpen and possibilities stay open.

You can think of the islands as autonomous units of meaning within a changing landscape. They do not represent stable and absolute knowledge, but rather fleeting moments of orientation that allow for action, interpretation, and creativity from that which is still in progress.

We invite you to drift along with the flow. From time to time, your body will encounter an island/ground of creativity, thought, or discovery that might shift your course, open a new direction, or spark unexpected awareness. Let it carry you forward.
