The Institute for Mapping Islands of Consciousness
Hadas Duchan
Alongside the clear and familiar areas in our lives, there are always more obscure territories: an elusive memory, a feeling that is difficult to explain, or a place that remains on the margins of consciousness. These are areas that are not mapped, not because they do not exist, but because they have not yet been given form.
The Institute for Mapping Islands of Consciousness is a research-cartographic-artistic body engaged in identifying, mapping, and validating areas that have not yet received full recognition, in the personal, interpersonal, social, familial, national, global, and conscious realms.
Especially for the Manofim Festival, the institute opens its doors to the public and invites you to an intimate one-on-one meeting. In the meeting, we will start from a concrete point in your life – a memory, a feeling, or a place – and initiate a gradual process of inquiry: marking what is known, lingering on what is blurred, and attempting to give line and shape to what may have never been spoken aloud or clearly described.
At the end of the meeting, after drawing and marking the map, it will receive official recognition as an ‘Island of Consciousness.’ Each participant will receive a copy of the map created, a tangible document that will allow you to grasp something that until then had been elusive and vague, and to become its rightful owner.
