Hazira and the Zik Group continue to celebrate 40 years of the group’s creative work together. The Zik Galaxy will run for a week across three spaces at Hazira simultaneously. It’s a chance to experience the group’s unique and rich oeuvre, which spans different fields, periods, and scales.

>> In Hall 1 at Hazira, an exhibition of original models and posters from the group’s archive will be presented for the first time. The exhibition is designed as a look into the rich history of the group, in its 41st year. True to the nature of memory, the exhibition is arranged in a wild manner, like a ‘cabinet of wonders’ where the exhibits remain mysterious and perform their original function as models for shows and exhibitions: they spark the imagination and illustrate experiences that could come to life on a real-size scale. The difference between the display of the models in the exhibition and their original performance is that they actually came true and were realized. You can see and experience this in the Zik Cinema.

On Wednesday and Thursday, July 15 and 16, there will be a meeting with the artists at the gallery at 18:00.

Free admission

>> In Hall 5 at Hazira, Zik Cinema will operate, featuring documentation of the group’s performances, films, and video art created by group members over the years. The films provide a glimpse into the ecstatic and groundbreaking experiences of the group’s works, and delve into the studio, the work processes, the people involved, and the intimacy of the craft itself.

In its fortieth year, Zik Group has come together in a performance for the vision of peace and brotherhood of Abie Nathan. Abie Nathan became a symbol of an uncompromising pursuit of dialogue and reconciliation ever since he flew in his plane “Peace 1” to meet Nasser in Port Said in 1966. In 1973, he launched the pirate radio station “Kol HaShalom” (“Voice of Peace”), which broadcast from the ship he operated for twenty years. Every evening, at sunset, he would cut the broadcast and say:

“Now at sunset, Kol HaShalom station will stop broadcasting for thirty seconds in memory of the victims of violence in our region and around the world.”

In the performance, imagery and actions, music and live singing build and deconstruct the ethos of hope. A dance of transparent flags turns into a sea on which the ship of peace sails. An airplane, a sunken ship, and a deep-sea fish share the vision. Against the backdrop of the word ‘peace’ sinking in our region, Zik’s performance creates a powerful political poem – a space of memory, hope, and imagination, inviting us to reconsider the possibility of a shared future.
