Manofim was hosted in “Breathing Space” and in art exhibitions throughout Beit Hansen. Together we offered a day full of content: master classes, workshops for the whole family, thought-provoking and emotional exhibitions, guided tours and more.

Manofim Tours
A guided tour of the exhibits in Beit Hansen and its surroundings
A tour that combined the historical story of Beit Hansen, three wonderful exhibitions that were currently on display in the building: “A Smart House in a Stupid Body”, “The History of Printing in the Small Room”, and “Ghosts” and at other art sites located across the road in the public space of the Jerusalem Theater and at the exhibition “Kissufim” in the studio “Of Her Own”.

Hadassah Goldwicht told us about the unique printing craft of Ariel Verdi. For more than thirty years Vardi printed hundreds of books and prints using unique printing methods he developed. Among other things, he made ballet letters with his own hands and even bound some of his books in sand and soil. Golddeicht talked about her video and sound work, which is shown in the underground spaces of her association, in which Verdi, who was an aloha at the Aliya B Institute, is recorded broadcasting his books in the Morse language.

Israeli agriculture market
Beit Hansen in collaboration with the Afai Farm and led by a group of volunteer members, social entrepreneurs – with and without disabilities, host a vegetable and fruit market every Thursday where a wide variety of crops from the south and north of the country are offered – the best produce of farmers around Israel and the returnees of the conflict line. Everything is done voluntarily, so all proceeds go to the farmers.

Artist class – bookbinding workshop with Hadassah Goldwicht
In the workshop we learned a traditional technique for sewing and artistic manual binding of booklets, using old photographs, or personal materials that the participants will bring. We talked about books and paper by looking at different traditions in the world. The artist Hadassah Goldwicht deals in her work with the connection between language as a raw material materialized in the body, visual and sensory decomposition of language and letters and the investigation of various aspects of reading and writing processes.

Breathing space – activity and creative rooms and a gaming lounge
As part of an activity for the residents of Jerusalem and the displaced families in the city, we have prepared a variety of activity spaces, a place to spend the afternoon with pleasure and relaxation: a gaming salon for youth with arcade machines, computer games, an art room that offers a variety of workshops for different ages, a screening room with films for the whole family and a host of other activities Uniqueness in the sign of Hanukkah.

As part of the meeting, we listened to Kiczales’ work and talk about the unique technique behind it. We will reveal how Kiczales “conjures up” Rabin’s voice, how the choir creates a new meaning for the interview with him? And we will talk about how the work echoes the current period.

The Manofim Tours program in a special winter edition.
A combination of new exhibitions that opened in galleries and exhibition spaces and art in the public space. During the tours we met artists in master classes and got to know the sculptures, murals, mosaics and outdoor works and the stories behind them. The tours were all on foot, divided according to the different areas of the city, and were guided by Dvir Shaked and Hadassah Cohen, curators and art tour guides.

Art in the Public Space: Yigal Tomarkin, Avraham Ofek and Ze’ev Raban
We started the first tour of the festival at the Koresh 14 gallery, at the group exhibition “Ter-Gil” (curator: Dvir Shaked). We passed through the statue of Yigal Tomarkin placed at the entrance to the building, to Avraham Ofek’s mural in the central post office building. After that we walked to the historic Tycho House, where we heard about the building, about Anna Tycho, and visited the exhibition “Makers from the House” (curator: Timna Seligman). The tour ended at the Azrieli Gallery at Hadassah College, where we heard from the gallery’s curator Tali Kayam and the curator of the exhibition “Little Sokolov” Monika Lavi about the exhibition and the personal story behind it.

The second tour of the festival took place in the Beit Hansen area. We started our tour in your own studio located in the Painter’s House, where we visited the exhibition “Kissofim” by the artist Reut Yeshayahu (curator: Little Marcus Morin), and we even had the privilege of taking a look at the warehouse where the estate of the painter Pinchas Litvinovsky is housed. From there we continued to the Jerusalem Theater Square, where we heard in depth about Yehiel Shemi’s sculptures integrated into the building and square. After that we crossed the road to the Beit Hansen compound, where we started getting acquainted with the historical building, and visited the display that tells the story of the Hansen Hospital. After that we moved to the gallery of the house, where “A Smart House in a Stupid Body” was presented, the solo exhibition of Guy Goldstein (curator: Verdit Gross). In the backyard of Beit Hansen we visited the sound gallery “Tea House”, where we listened to the exhibition “Ghosts” by Daniel Kitchels (curator: Amir Boltzman). We concluded the tour with a meeting with Hadassah Golduicht at the exhibition “The History of the Small Print” by Ariel Verdi and Hadassah Golduicht (curators: Sala-Menka and Ada Verdi), which is displayed in the “Mamuta” space in the basement of Beit Hansen.

The artists’ workshops
On the last tour we visited the artists’ workshops in Talpiot, where we heard about the murals on the outside of the building, we met Hanita Ilan and Ariel HaCohen who create in the studios and we visited the exhibition “Lactism” by the artists Tamara Moises and Shlomi Yaffe (curator: Lee Haya Shulov), which is displayed in the gallery of the artists’ workshops.

The art of sculpture, an art class by Alexi Ben Abba, Amal Mater and Janan Zagri
A sculpture workshop from recycled materials where we found the way to visually express adventures from our imaginations. With simple handwork, we created all the parts of the show: stage, characters, decor and stories that have been given new life in exciting and entertaining theater games.

A Print of Light
The art of printing, an art class by Carolyn Muller
In the workshop we learned and experimented with various printing techniques by using printing stamps and printing on a printing press. The print products were used by us to create spectacular lanterns in a selection of models.

The Magic of Paper
The art of paper sculpture, an art class by Hadas Dokan and Shani Avivi
Did you know that paper originates from plant fibers? In the workshop we learned about the traditions of paper making, we experimented with making recycled paper in different shapes and we incorporated natural materials such as leaves and flowers into the paper.

Sam Spiegel Artist Studio invited the audience of visitors as part of the Manofim Festival, including the evacuee communities staying in Jerusalem to the artist complex at Yad Harutz 4, for a contemporary art exhibition, master class, open studio, music events and art workshops.

The group of artists included young and old artists, in a variety of disciplines, most of whom are active and exhibit in well-known galleries and museums in Israel and around the world.

Art Workshops Marathon
As part of the Hanukkah and Manofim events, we offered about ten workshops in a variety of fields: ceramics, painting, drawing, printing, photography, sculpture, music, puppetry and more.

Open studio
The artists of the complex opened their studios to the general public, presented and offered works for purchase. The audience toured and was entertained in a variety of workspaces from the fields of ceramics, painting, printing, photography, multidisciplinary art, puppetry and more.

Art class – Irit Abba
Observation and conversation with Irit Abba, a potter whose work focuses on traditional stonework as a starting point. Irit Abba is a master’s degree graduate of the ceramic design department at Bezalel, where she taught for four decades. Her works are shown in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums in Israel and abroad.
