Drawing Journey

Rachel Kainy steps out of the studio to wander and sketch in the urban-industrial environment with a unique device created for her by the artist Itamar Mendes-Flor. The device allows continuous drawing while walking: both hands, right and left, draw simultaneously, creating an immediate sketch that comes from the encounter between sight, street, and body. The action generates an attentive presence and movement that isn’t aimed at a known goal, but at the happening itself.
The audience is invited to join the stroll, carry together the trail of ongoing sketches behind the artist, and to shift from onlooker to participant. Through walking and the shared action, a connecting line is formed: between right and left, between body and place, between people, and between different points of view.
